In this materialistic world, poverty is often seen as a barrier to spiritual growth. However, in the eyes of the awakened, poverty is merely a projection of internal lack—a dream that can be shattered.
Perceiving the Illusion
The root of poverty lies not in material shortage, but in the mind's "seeking heart" and identification with lack. When we define ourselves as needy, we lose sight of our original perfection.
Like the beggar who carried a jewel without knowing it, we wander in misery while holding infinite wealth within our Bodhicitta. Practice is the process of rediscovering this internal treasure.
Without awareness, the mind is swayed by winds of anxiety. The first step of practice is to realize that this feeling of deficiency is as unreal as a flower in the sky.
The Wisdom of Giving
In times of hardship, practitioners should understand the value of ceasing worldly affairs. Stop unnecessary social obligations and calculated schemes to build the power of Samadhi.
By simplifying life and dwelling in purity, one remains unmoved by life's pressures. This stillness allows us to observe how our minds create the narrative of suffering.
Furthermore, use unattached giving to break psychological inertia. Sharing a teaching or offering a kind word are forms of giving that plant seeds of abundance, telling the subconscious: "I have enough to give."
Transforming Consciousness
When you stop identifying with poverty, every struggle becomes a catalyst for enlightenment. By cultivating stability through lack, attachment transforms into wisdom.
Awakening doesn't mean instant external riches, but the dissolution of the burning pain of lack. Once the inner jewel is revealed, the practitioner moves from scarcity to wholeness.
In this realization, the perceived suffering lessens, and the mind finds its true home in the purity of its own nature.
